Les Amis. Life is short so enjoy it!
Okay, I know that starting a blog post in this manner goes against the ascetic of blogging
But I'm sure that I caught your attention today, hopefully.
Recently learned about the value of being content in this receptive season that's related to my life. A season of walking by faith and really believing in God for my next .... anything. This season has be tough but it has also been rewarding in many ways because of my prospective when it comes to seeking God first and having a positive mindset has enabled me to look beyond the horizon. Sometimes the reality of life has a way of reminding us that we are human. Limitations seem to expand right in front of our faces as we look at the opportunities that could enable us to get out of a certain situation but I had to learn that my dependence on God was the first choice that would work out for my good.
Obviously getting to this point has not been easy and I know for a fact that there is still a lot of lessons that I need to learn but here a few thing that I learned in this season and I really hope that you can benefit from it.
1. Seek God First
As a child of God (aka we be repping Jesus on this blog - Christians), I truly believe in reaching out to our Father for help when joy is not so evident in our lives. One of my favorite bibles verses indicated the importance of seeking first the Kingdom of God and his goodness before anything else especially before material things or the validation of people (Matthew 6: 25 - 34). The Bible also indicated that the joy of Lord is our strength Nehemiah 8:10. Hence, we understand that we are no longer drawing from good circumstance for joy. In this manner, we are now drawing from God for strength that comes from his joy and it's from there that we find our joy. That is why when we seek God we gain clarity in terms of getting the proper direction and instruction concerning our next step. I’ve adapted this strategy a few times and let me advocate and say that keeping God first in any given circumstance has always worked for my good. It's also a way that keeps me sane knowing that I can surrender whatever situation in His hands so that my hearts is filled with Him and not with issues that lead to sadness and disrepair.
2. Count is All Joy
Being the optimistic person that I am I always try to find joy in everything even if it means going to my accountability partner(s) when I need to hear a word of encouragement or even if it means reading Philippians 4: 10 - 20 over and over and over again. This took time to adapt and really practice this habit consistently. At first it was not easy. I would find myself in seasons of feeling depressed and I got to a point where I was no longer okay with feeling depressed all the time. Depression is so draining ya’ll (that’s another blog post for another day). So I decided to look at the bright side and renew my mind (Romans 12:2). You see, when we have a different prospective we understand that in the long run our dark days have no choice but to turn in better days for the Glory of God as long as we keep on focusing on Him. Take this into consideration, when we look in the bible we see people like David and Joseph who experienced injustice but they were so consistent when it came to staying faithful towards God and have a good attitude. Hence, having positive prospective or in the complexity of things to have good mental state regardless of the reality of life. It was evident that they kept there faith and trusted in God no matter what. I always use these two individuals as examples and other public figures in the world such as:
- Bill Gates - His first business failed. Yet who does not know Microsoft
- Albert Einstein didn't speak until he was four years old. Yet we all know E=MC2
- Jim Carrey used to be homeless. Yet he is one the funniest people on earth
- Bethany Hamilton (a suffer) had her arm bitten off by a shark at the age of 13. Yet, she won first place in the Explore Women's Division of the NASSA National Championship.
- Oprah Winfrey - Imagine being born in rural 1950s Mississippi to an impoverished teenage mother. Imagine suffering abuse from the age of 9, then running away from home at 13, only to become pregnant at 14 and lose your first child. Yet ending up being one the most influential individual on earth.
That's just to name a few people that overcame and surmounted the odds of life and I really hope that this keep you motivated.
3. Invest / Serve Others
I'm huge advocate when it comes to having healthy relationships. Often times when we are faced with a crisis or a minor problem we tend to think that our world will automatically put itself on pause to tend to our problems. Unfortunately that's not how the law of time works. But I learned that when we feel low or when we feel like we really don't count. Reaching out to check up on someone or tending to someones needs has helped me tremendously. Even praying for others surprisingly. Now, I'm not saying this so that you can go and seek validation from people. Your validation has already been counted for and you matter. But what I'm trying to reiterate is the fact that there are people that are in your circle our evern outside of your circle that could be going through something similar or even wrost and they are in need to help or support. serving/ investing in others is truly powerful. So when you plant a seed of goodness in someone else's life, know that one day you will reap a fruitful harvest because you served others out of love and not based on the fact that you needed something in return.
3. Enjoy Your Now
Enjoy your now. I always say "focus on your now so that you can live a purposeful life" Your now is so powerful because you can either focus on the fact that there is hope for your tomorrow or you could focus on the fact that you are not happy and that nothing is working out for you blah blah blah blah blah...... Being negative is so draining and in all honesty it bring us nowhere. It keeps us planted in the past and blinds us from the goodness that lies ahead in the future. Also, if a person is constantly confessing lows they will experience lows. But lets be the individuals that are grateful for the little that we have. Count it all joy when you look and see that you have food on your plate, a roof over your head, friends and family that care about you, God has seen you through so many times, and He knows the plans that he has for! Heck, you are still alive, breathing and well. Not only that I am so sure that God has a plan for you (Jeremiah 29:11) and that he has promised you with many things that will enable you to celebrate his goodness one day. What I'm trying to imply here is that you are well in your now and that a circumstance should not hinder you from being optimistic. At the end of the day is's a choice that needs to made. I pray that we choose wisely.
I really hope that today's post blessed you and I hope that you continue to look on the bright side as you appreciate the little things. Remember seek first God's goodness and Enjoy Your Now.
Be blessed Les Amis
